Is there any such thing??
Firstly is it free or are the costs built into the price you pay for the kitchen units etc?
Secondly, lets assume it is actually ‘free’… is what many companies offer by way of a layout hastily thrown together on a computer, ‘DESIGN’!? Is the person producing the ‘design’ a designer or just a sales person who has attended a one day course with a kitchen manufacturer?
I know what I think, but then I have been designing kitchens for 20 years now and am actually a qualified designer so maybe I am somewhat biased!
The main problem is that the public are not prepared to pay to have a professional design produced, due to the fact that nearly every company offers a so called ‘free’ design service
Most people come to me having already had 3+ ‘designs’ already produced for free, none of which are anything close to what they actually want.
Then on the other side of the coin, I am constantly presented with ‘plans’ by customers who have ‘designed their own’ kitchen and do not require any help from me because they know exactly what they need (after all it’s their kitchen and they know best how to lay it out!)
I am in the process of putting together a light-hearted, but useful look at the world of ‘kitchen buying’ and look forward to comments and experiences from ‘jo public’. I will be offering tips and advice on the pitfalls of getting a new kitchen, from design through to installation
