The mothers of the Afghan Heroes campaign were honoured with a Special Recognition awards at this year’s ‘The Sun Military Awards ceremony at the Imperial War Museum in London.
The award presented by Prince Harry left people in tears, he called them “quite remarkable ladies” adding: “Your story is truly humbling. To show such immense courage in the face of tragedy is beyond words.”
Over 210 soldiers have now been killed in Afghanistan and MOD figures show that in the month of July alone there were 94 injuries associated with the war in Afghanistan. That is a lot of families going through the same pain they are going through. The mothers felt the time was right for a charity dedicated to the welfare of those directly involved in the conflict.
If more than 200 people were killed in a major accident or explosion and thousands more injured there would be charities set up within days to support the families.
Afghan Heroes has been formed as a mother’s legacy, sadly almost every week another family hears the devastating news that their loved one will not be coming home. They need help to come to terms with their loss. Afghan Heroes delivers the right support.
Afghan Heroes is independent of other forces charities. It deals specifically with members of the British forces and their families that have been affected by the military operations in Afghanistan now and into the future. The intention is to operate until a minimum of five-years from the cessation of our military presence in Afghanistan.
For anyone who has been affected by events in Afghanistan feel free to contact them through their website www.afghanheroes.org.uk.
